The Walton Swifts Walking Football Club was created back in 2014 by two men  from Walton on the Naze, John Kilby and Chris Knighton.

Their aim was to provide local people over the age of 50 with a means of getting regular, fun, healthy exercise along with the opportunity to socialise as a group.

From small beginnings the club has flourished and has a current active membership of around 50 players between the ages of 50 and 87. We are delighted that we now also have some women members with us. The success has been dramatic and the enjoyment that the members get from playing the football they still love followed by a few beers has to be experienced to fully understand just how good it all is.

The success of the club meant moving from Walton on the Naze to much better (and safer) facilities at Frinton on Sea Lawn Tennis Club with football members from Walton, Frinton and more widely in Tendring. In 2024  we also introduced walking football on a grass pitch at the Frinton Cricket Club.

The club now plays football twice each week for an hour on Monday afternoons at the Cricket Club and Wednesday evenings on the hard courts at the Tennis Club with between 16 and 24 attendees each time. The Swifts also regularly visit other Walking Football clubs for friendly or tournament play for the occasional something that bit more competitive.

Walking Football sessions

Come along for a free "taster session" on any  Monday or Wednesday to see if we suit you.

If you do decide to join us, you will need to become a Walking Football member of either or both of Frinton on Sea Lawn Tennis Club and the Cricket Club depending upon the days you will want to play. We would explain the options and very reasonable costs if you come along to try us out free of charge.

More than a Football Club

More than a Football Club

Here at the Swifts it’s not just about playing walking football. Members can enjoy as much, or as little, of the social side of our club as is right for them.

You can always be sure that a good number of us will stay behind in the bar at our venues after each football session for a drink, have a laugh and to put the world right.

Each year

Here at the Swifts it’s not just about playing walking football. Members can enjoy as much, or as little, of the social side of our club as is right for them.

You can always be sure that a good number of us will stay behind in the bar at our venues after each football session for a drink, have a laugh and to put the world right.

Each year brings at least one Charity night and in 2022 our members played walking football dressed as famous players, past or present, to raise money for a Prostate Cancer charity. The annual party and awards night is always a great fun event too.

There is a flourishing group of players wives and partners (The Walking WAGS) who meet regularly together for lunch or to have drinks with the players after football sessions.
